She was a devoted Minnesota Twins Fan, who liked to travel and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Karan enjoyed the kid’s activities, neighboring, card clubs, sewing hardanger embroidery, and quiet time. She always wanted her children to experience things she never could. In 2005, the couple settled in Blooming Prairie where Karan was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, WELCA, and a volunteer at the Blooming Prairie Elementary School. Karan began her work life in bookkeeping working for Wilsons in Albert Lea and then worked as a Paraprofessional at Dover Eyota High School as a media center specialist. They started building their family in Slayton, Minnesota, before moving to Eyota, Minnesota, in 1975. On October 16, 1965, she married Jack Heather at Hayward Lutheran Church. Karan graduated from Glenville High School. She grew up on a farm north of Myrtle and attended country school. Karan Jeanette Prantner was born June 2, 1944, in Austin, Minnesota, to Edward and Barbara (Hartley) Prantner. Heather, age 79, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at her home. In lieu of flowers, Edith and the family ask that you make a memorial donation to the Animal Legal Defense Fund (or to the animal charity of your choice. At her request, Sharon was cremated there was no public service. She is also survived by her cousins Joan Lovelace and Clark Thompson, and by many long-time friends including Lynda Rearick and John Wandmaker and family. Sharon is survived by her partner of 40 years Edith Tray and Edith’s family: Judith Johnson and family, Jennifer Bard and family, Donald Bross and family, and Edith’s sister Roberta Tray. Sharon loved traveling, especially to New England and Lake Superior’s North Shore. She had strong opinions and didn’t hesitate to share them or to persuade you she was right. Sharon loved fishing, casinos, gardening, woodworking, and arguing. She was a lead ranger with the newly created mounted patrol office, a job she dearly loved. Sharon joined the Anoka County Park Service as a park ranger in 1992, working at Bunker Hills Regional Park. She also ran her own woodworking and cabinetry business for 11 years. Sharon loved her Navy career but chose to put it aside in 1981 when her parents needed her back home due to their declining health. From there she went to Newport, Rhode Island and was an instructor and training officer, and later was an officer recruiter in Minneapolis. While with the Navy she served in Kingsville Texas as a personnel officer and had many opportunities to ride in jets. After college she continued a long, family tradition by joining the U.S. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She was born on September 16, 1946, in Rochester Minnesota, to Hilmer and Thelma (Richards) Thompson. Sharon was a long-time resident of Andover, Minnesota and a seasonal resident of Fifty Lakes. Sharon Thompson passed away in her sleep early on October 10, 2023.
